About Me:
Currently, I am writing an all-natural cookbook. I’m creating the recipes and photography, too. Along the way, I’m doing my best to teach readers the holistic sensebilities I’ve taught myself in the text, so its more than just a compliation of recipes. It’s a guide to holistic recipes with a lot of snappy photos.
I’ve gotten some earlier media success from a series of yoga DVDs I produced and also star in. My passion for yoga couldn’t be contained, but I decided I did not want to be a studio owner. http://askyogimarlon.com is a site I started in 2000 so that yoga and some of its lesser know facets could be available to everyone. The motivation began in 1996 just after moving to Los Angeles. I had already begun studying yoga in a serious way, but one of the main obstacles was the expense of training. I sacrificed a tremendous amount of “comfortable lifestyle” so that I could be in the midst of teachers, but at the same time realized many others might not. So right off, my goal was to make the teachings of yoga affordable and accessible. I had a template site and was already taping video as far back as 1996.
I took the words of Krishnamacharya very literally when he said, “There is an appropriate yoga for everyone.” It’s not just postures, ya know?
Later I began writing a Q&A column in the namesake of my website, Ask Yogi Marlon. It ran in Yogi Times and Mystic Pop magazines for 2 years. Because I found most writing in yoga magazines empty fluff that lacked depth and practicality, I designed the column to offer traditional Vedic knowledge, practical techniques and spiritual advice in a brass tacks kind of way. Most editions offer info from a variety of schools of thought and then my opinion on what I believe is in alignment. I so do believe in the classics of spiritual literature, but is not necessarily reflective of what I’ve found is being taught in yoga studios. I do my very best to inspire people to contemplate issues by quietly going inward, researching and experimenting with what is right for them. Great truths are easy to recognize.
I’ll ask here for communication from anyone who can offer advise on how syndicate the column. I’ve got a portfolio full of editions and some archives are here if you’d like to read them: http://askyogimarlon.com/archive/index.html
Last year I created a DVD for the obese. Ooooo, what a huge project! It’s gorgeously shot high def with the help of a handful of wonderful crew members, who gave their all. In its finished 9 chapters and 128 minutes, I offer yoga practices and info on what ayurveda has to say about the tendency to gain weight with a good dose of fun and humor. I think it is a unique approach, because my goal is not to expect athleticism or deprivation dieting. That’s just not realistic from ” kapha dosha.”, says ayurveda. Alternatively, I teach my my plump students doable postures and breathing and to look for inner peace as an alternative to caloric satisfaction. In one chapter, I also go over household products so that all viewers start to understand how many common household products they use are depleting their energy. I’m so up for taking the chemicals out of our lives. They’re killing us, ya know? Here’s a 5 min. trailer: http://askyogimarlon.com/playvideo-couchpotatoes.html. It’s available for purchase at http://askyogimarlon.com/dvd.html. Downloads coming soon!
Going forward, I’m interested in doing a magazine-style TV show that features practical information on living a holistic lifestyle and ways in which we can live with more peace, contentment, and ability to reach our greatest, individual human potential. That show would be inspired by actual viewer questions that come thru http://askyogimarlon.com/askyogimarlon.html. I’ve got a registered treatment. If you’d like to participate, please write to me.
